RECIPE #73: DONUT Holes filled with Chocolate Whipped Cream

"Man, these are like crack. They're delicious!" ~Ryan, my husband, after his 7th one.

DONUT HOLES
Makes 35

2 T warm water
1 envelope dry yeast
1/4 C shortening
1/4 C sugar
1/2 t salt
1 egg
1 C milk
3 1/4 C flour
oil for frying
powdered sugar (optional)

Put warm water in a bowl and sprinkle the yeast on top. Set aside for 5 min. In the mean time, cream together shortening, sugar and salt. Add the egg.

Pour the milk into the yeast then alternate with flour adding it into the creamed mixture.

Grease a bowl (I just sprayed it with cooking spray). Spray the dough all the way around with the cooking spray and place into grease bowl.

Cover with a light kitchen towel & let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Punch down & roll out to 1/2" thick. (I used butter flavor shortening to grease the counter top, my hands & rolling pin so that the dough wouldn't stick.) Cut in 2" rounds,

roll into balls & place in a grease sheet or pan. Place in a 100 degree oven for 15 min to rise.

During this time, heat up your deep fryer or oil in a deep skillet to 350 degrees or hotter. (I have an old one so it gets way too hot.)

Use your thumb to make an indent in the center of each dough piece.

Fry 30 sec to 1 min per side.

Cool on paper towel for at least 30 min. Dust with powdered sugar - optional.

Fill with Chocolate whipped cream or other filling.

Chocolate Whipped Cream

1 C heavy whipping cream
1 t vanilla
2 1/2 T sugar
2 1/2 T cocoa

Put all ingredients in a bowl and beat on high until stiff peaks form.

Put in piping bag (use a Ziploc if you don't have a piping bag) & pipe into/onto each donut hole.

Those look yummy. I'll have to make them for my kids and David sometime.
You should have taken some pics of Ryan eating them like you did Canaan. I bet they would have been similar :) Would have been funny.
